Metal Gear Solid HD Collection delayed in Europe

[UPDATE]: North American players to receive compilation November 8, but European gamers will have to wait until February 2012 to slip back into Snake’s skin.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is going to miss its November release window in Europe, Konami confirmed today. The game is now set to be released in Europe on February 3, 2012, for the PS3 and Xbox 360, the publisher said.

Included in the collection are the PS2 hits Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3; the PSP’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker; and the MSX origin titles Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Konami has said that Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace Walker have all been upgraded to 60-frame-per-second high-definition visuals. Peace Walker’s online mode has also been included, allowing players to battle against opponents or team up in co-op mode.

The stealth action series, helmed by feted developer Hideo Kojima, started with Metal Gear in 1987 on the MSX2 and comprises more than 20 titles. The most recent release in the series is Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, which debuted in 2010 to critical acclaim.

[UPDATE]: Konami has since confirmed that Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will launch November 8 in North America.

Namco increases financial forecast thanks to Tales of Xillia

Tales of Financial Matters

Andriasang reports that Namco Bandai has raised its earnings forecast (PDF) for the first six months of the year. Sales, previously pegged at ¥178 billion ($2.3 billion), are now expected to reach ¥194 billion ($2.5 billion); meanwhile, operating income (i.e. profit) projections have risen sharply from ¥6.5 billion ($85.6 million) to ¥15.5 billion ($204.3 million).

The projections were raised on the back of high sales of Tales of Xillia and (ahem) AKB1/48 If I Loved an Idol in Guam. Just to be clear, AKB1/48 If I Loved an Idol in Guam is the full title of an actual game. We’re not talking about Namco’s newfound success in the island territory of Guam.

Dungeon Siege 3 digs up ‘Treasures of the Sun’ DLC

Nice hat.

Those looking to squeeze a little more life out of Dungeon Siege 3 take note, as a fresh piece of downloadable content has just been released. Entitled “Treasures of the Sun,” the DLC introduces the Aranoi Desert, in which “players will fight through hordes of new villains only to find a forgotten abbey hiding a long-lost secret: the greatest treasure of the Azunite faith.”

In addition to the new area, Treasures of the Sun also throws in new items and enemies, a new enchanting system and a selection of new character abilities. Beyond that, the level cap has been raised from 30 to 35 and players can even reallocate the points they’ve spent on talents and proficiencies. Interested dungeon delvers can snag the DLC for $10 on Xbox, PS3 and PC.

Shippin’ Out October 23-29: Battlefield 3

EA sends DICE shooter to the front lines as Dance Central 2, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, and Daytona USA also head to market.

The din of anticipation for EA’s Battlefield 3 can finally come to an end, as it finally hits store shelves this week. Dance Central 2 is set to follow up last years Kinect-only dance game from Harmonix. The Wii is getting one of its biggest games of the holiday in Kirby’s Return to Dreamland, Telltale’s adventure game take on Back to the Future is on the way for PlayStation 3 and Wii, and Daytona USA is back for another “rolling start.”

After countless trailers and a beta that garnered more than 8 million participants, DICE’s latest deploys this week. Set to hit the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, Battlefield 3 has seen a media blitz the likes of which few games are afforded. Although it’s not EA’s first title of the big release season, it will be its biggest, at least until December 20 when Star Wars: The Old Republic is slated to launch.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Kinect is celebrating its second holiday season on shelves with a parade of sequels to its biggest launch titles. This week, Harmonix debuts the second installment in its Kinect-compatible dance series. New features in Dance Central 2 include two-player simultaneous dancing, a revamped Break it Down mode, new voice controls, and a whole new lineup of songs.

The Wii has one more holiday season left before the Wii U takes over as Nintendo’s primary push in the living room, and Kirby isn’t going to miss the chance for another trip back to Dreamland. Although the pink puffball’s classic power-stealing ability is back, four player co-op will bring weapon-wielding King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Waddle Dee into the mix on a quest to help the alien Magolor find all the missing pieces of his wrecked ship.

Sega’s classic stock car racer, Daytona USA, is coming back for a victory lap on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. This updated release will include 16:9 widescreen support and online, in addition to the traditional Arcade, Survival, and Time Trial modes.

For further details, visit GameSpot’s New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.
